Planet - Circularity
CIRCULARITY SOLVED
CIRCULARITY SOLVED means that:
We recover discarded materials (from demolition, excavation, mining, industry)
We add value through processing, blending, bagging, making blocks, etc
We reuse them in construction.
Materials that cannot be efficiently recycled are used in land remediation.
GRS has long pioneered the sourcing and supply of recycled and secondary aggregates as an efficient alternative to newly-quarried primary aggregates.
Often the most effective solution to achieve the desired performance and specification is a blend of primary, secondary and recycled aggregates.
RECOVERY & RECYCLING
Recycled sources typically include waste from construction, demolition or excavation (CDEW) like crushed concrete, road planings and old rail ballast.
These are washed, graded and blended to make aggregates that are suitable for some, but not all uses in construction.
SOURCING SECONDARIES
Secondary aggregates are by-products from other industrial sectors such as china clay mining (see Enviroc®) or the residues of Energy-from-Waste processing (see Ecoblend®).
GRS has led the pursuit of cost-effective ways to transport and process secondary materials to produce high-quality aggregates. Today, more than 50% of the materials that GRS trades come from recycled or secondary sources. For the foreseeable future, there will still be a need for primary aggregates, but we are determined to continue increasing the volume of secondary and recycled materials we supply with the ambition to move away from reliance on primary aggregates by 2040.
